Teamwork divides the task and multiplies the success -unknown-

The children are studying Gaudí’s pieces extensively. They note color, size, shape among other things. Carefully, they run their fingers across the images taking in as many details as possible. It is decided the next step is to create one of Gaudí’s pieces themselves. Opinions differ, but a brief conversation results in an amiable solution.

¿Cual fue tu parte favorita del libro del Sr. Gaudí? (what was your favorite part of the book of Mr. Gaudí?

Diego

La casa Mila it has muchas ventanas. (La Casa Mila, it has a lot of windows)

Sophia

La casa del Sr. Gaudí es como de piedra. (The house of Mr. Gaudí its like rocks)

Emma

A mi me gusta la casa del Sr. Gaudí porque es muy grande. (I like the house of Mr. Gaudi because its so

big)

Ms. Vania

¿Como creen ustedes que el Sr. Gaudí construyo su casa? (How do you think Mr. Gaudí construct his house?

Sophia

Uso como cemento para pegar todos las piedras grandes. (He use cement to glue all the rocks)

Emma

Muchas personas le ayudaron como construction workers. (A lot of people helped just like construction workers)

Diego

Yeah all his helpers los que le ayudan al Sr. Gaudí con su plan. (Yes all his helpers who helped Mr. Gaudí with his plan)

Ms. Vania

¿Como podemos tener un plan como Gaudí? (How can we have a plan like Gaudí?

Sophia

¡Yo se podemos votar! (I know we can vote!)

Emma

¡Si!Yo quiero hacer la casa del Sr. Gaudí. (Yes! I want to make the house of Mr. Gaudí)

Sophia

Okay yo lo quiero hacer con ti go Emma. (Okay I want to make it with you Emma)

Diego

Mmm but, I wanted to do Casa Mila.

Sophia

Maybe cuando ya terminemos yo te ayudo hacer el plan de la Casa Mila. (Maybe when we are done I can help you make the plan of Casa Mila)

Diego

Okay primero casa Gaudí y después casa mila. (Okay first Gaudí’s house then Casa Mila)

Emma

¡Si! (Yes!)

Ms. vania

¿Que material necesitan para construir la casa de Gaudí? (What material are you going to use to create the house of Gaudí)

They all agree they wanted to draw a plan first and then build it with blocks.

Sophia

Guys que tal si hacemos las paredes muy altas como a si. (Guys, what about if we make the walls as high like this much)

Sophia then showed children the hight she wanted the walls of the house to be.

Emma

Yeah! Esa es una buena idea Sophia aquí te traje mas

cuadrados. (Yeah! that is a great idea Sophia here I brought you more squares)

Diego

Mmmm… I like that idea. to me it needs to have carpet so the people that pass by don’t slip)

Sophia

Okay, Okay fine! Que vamos a usar Emma? (Okay okay fine, what are we going to use Emma?)

Emma

Yo se estas telas. (I know these fabrics)

Emma

Yo puedo hacer las ventanas. (I can do the windows)

Sophia

Yo ago la casa como un rectángulo shape. (I’ll make the house like a rectangular shape)

Diego

I can make the tower and la parte de arriva en el techo it looks like a mushroom. (I can make the tower and the top part on the ceiling, it looks like a mush- room)

Sophia

¡A hora ya estamos listos para construir nuestro plan como Gaudí’s helpers! (Now we are ready to build our plan like Gaudí’s helpers)

Diego

¡Si!

Teacher Reflection

Creating time and space for studying the foundation for deeper thinking. Allowing chil- dren to form their own theories is an integral part of fueling long term investigations. Small group work creates a platform where children can become more comfortable articulat- ing their ideas to tother and constructively working out differences of opinion without the aid of an adult.
